Sept of the White Water

Sept of the White Water
Caern of the Mistveil
Luna Island, Niagara Falls, NY, Niagara Protectorate
Level 2 Caern of Gnosis
Totem: Uktena

This tiny caern is located on Luna and Iris Islands, located between the Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls and the Bridal Veil and Horseshoe Falls (respectively). The sept is headed by Bull Roarer, an Uktena of the nearby Tuscarora Indian Reservation.

Agents of the Wyrm nearly claimed the caern in the late 19th century, when they successed in boarding the falls from the sight of viewers and charging money for a look at the wonder. This plan was defeated by Frederick Law Olmsted – the same Gnawer Kin who was pivotal in the creation of Central Park – with backing from with the Fianna, who poured numerous resources to protect the natural area around the falls and keep them open for visitors.

Though the Uktena are loath to share their ancient sites with other tribes, they acknowledge that the Fianna saved the caern from falling to the Wyrm and so allowed the Fianna a home at the caern. The Fianna are content to allow the Uktena leadership in the caern as long as it remains open for all servants of Gaia. Only once have the Fianna deposed the Uktena rule at the sept – back in the late 1930s, when the Uktena attempted to seal the caern from “invader” tribes. Once this madness was put down, the Fianna returned proprietorship of the caern to the Uktena, and the sept has remained open ever since.

Although the caern is small in landmass, the hope and dreams it engenders in viewers grants it greater power than such a site normally would have. The love and courage the falls have brought to thousands over the centuries has strengthened this font of Gnosis from a trickle to a steady stream.
