Session 2: Exquisite Corpse

The Garou of Unicorn’s Fury returned to Flash’s penthouse adjacent to Central Park, along with their captive. After chaining up the Dancer and briefly speaking with Flash, they returned to the caern to report to Hot Sauce, the Ritemaster.

They found the Child of Gaia playing guitar on the lawn in Sheep Meadow. Ten found Hot Sauce to be unflappable as he tried to interrupt the melody unsuccessfully; Cael joined in to sing along (Greensleeves, in Gaelic). Eventually, though, Hot Sauce got down to business and explained that the body of Camisa, a cub who was to undergo her Rite of Passage at the next full moon, had been discovered in a landfill across the river into New Jersey. A Bone Gnawer kinfolk (Bill) had found it while scrounging in the dump and thus far the body had not been discovered by the police. The pack was instructed to head to the landfill, meet a Glass Walker kin there, and then recover the body.

The pack traveled to the landfill and met up with Rick “Corpsecamper” Lincoln, the kin with the coroner’s office. They headed into the disgusting garbage dump and eventually located the corpse, with no sign of the Gnawer kin about. Cael was able to confirm that the blood scent from the body was the same that he had smelled earlier in Brooklyn. No real evidence was found on the body other than a few scraps of sheet clinging to the body, and there was no sign of scent other than the Gnawer kin and the dead cub; additionally, there was not enough blood on the scene to indicate that the girl had actually bled out here. The cause of death appeared to be a slit throat, bearing the telltale marks of a silver wound; the only other oddity was a faint smell of formaldehyde wavering about the corpse .

Eventually Cael decided to risk stepping sideways; Ten and Finn went with him into the Umbra, leaving Serious to watch over the body. With luck, there were no trash scraglings about and the Child of Gaia was able to speak with a rat spirit nearby, who relayed the fact that the body had been dumped by another that appeared to be a Garou as well. Cael convinced the ratling to come back with him in return for giving the spirit a home.

In the meantime, Serious had abandoned the body temporarily to track down the Gnawer kinfolk. He found the old man nearby, but the vagrant could not provide any information; he had simply been scavenging and come across the body, and recognized that it may be Garou. Serious agreed to deliver a note from Bill to Orange Joe back at the sept, and then returned to the body just as the rest of the pack was emerging from the spirit world.

After loading the skinned corpse into a body bag provided by Corpsecamper, the pack headed back toward the van – only to discover that the kinfolk had been accosted by a police officer for parking in a No Parking area.

Cael attempted to talk to the police officer and convince him to let the man go without looking into the matter, but unfortunately the kinfolk fumbled this attempt badly. However, Ten (in perfect Ragabash form) used his gifts to sneak into the cop’s cruiser. With a bit of assistance from the others, he was able to put the car in reverse and leap out, sending the cop chasing after his car, giving the pack time to load the body and escape in the van.

Hot Sauce, Shakey Mac, Mother Larissa, and Wildcard were gathered in the caern’s heart at Bethesda Fountain; Shakey Mac took the body from the pack for funeral preprations. The Grand Elder explained to the pack that the activities of the Spirals nearby was more dire than they had expected: The Wyrm monsters were attempting to build a caern just across the bay in Brooklyn, and had to be stopped. The sept was now planning a major assault on the area, but Unicorn’s Fury was to play a different role: Investigators of this grisly murder. To try and halt a potential panic regarding the corpse’s state, that information was to be kept secret, and since the pack was already informed they would be charged with discovering what was happening.

The pack rested overnight and then returned to Brooklyn, where they began tracking down the site where the murder had apparently taken place. From her incautious entrance, it appeared that Camisa had not expected any trouble. They eventually located a ruined park amongst a number of tenement buildings, and tracked the scent into a patch of heavy brush at the park’s center. There they found a massive bloodstain and signs that the cub’s throat had been slashed from behind. The attacker had again left behind no scent and had done a very thorough job of disguising the trail into and out of the park, leaving only a very few faint footprints indicating that he had entered in homid form but then left in glabro, carrying the body.

Following what little tracks they could find, they discovered that the body had been carried to a vehicle of some sort – a vehicle bearing the scent of formaldehyde, just like the scent on the body.

The pack pieced together a bit of the picture now: Camisa had been called to the park by someone whom she apparently trusted. Once there, her throat was slashed from behind with a silver blade by a Garou. She was allowed to bleed out. At some unidentified time was skinned, and then also at some point was loaded into a vehicle that smelled of formaldehyde, driven to the landfill, and then dumped there.

With only a few questions answered, the pack headed back to the caern to investigate further. Will they ask the right questions? More importantly, will they be ready for the answers?
